MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Moscow has been an active participant of the Syrian peace process, helping find a diplomatic solution to the civil war in the country. Since 2011, the Syrian government has been fighting multiple opposition factions and terrorist groups, including Daesh and al-Nusra Front.

Russia has been conducting pinpoint airstrikes on terrorist positions in Syria at the request of President Bashar Assad since September 30.

"The relations between Russia and Syria is a historic friendly and brotherly relationship that is built on trust and confidence. Our coordination with the Russians is continuous on every single detail," Shaaban said at the experts meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in Moscow.

On Monday, Russia and the United States announced that an agreement on the cessation of hostilities between the Syrian government of President Bashar Assad and armed opposition factions had been reached. The ceasefire will come into force on February 27.
