UN Hails US-Russian Cessation of Hostilities Agreement in Syria
07:45 GMT 24.02.2016 (Updated: 10:55 GMT 26.10.2022) The UN hopes that the announcement by Russia and the United States of the cessation of hostilities in Syria will provide for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the needy, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov and UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Stephen O'Brien expressed the position during a recent meeting.
“Stephen O'Brien expressed his satisfaction of the joint statement of the Russian Federation and the United States as the co-chairs of the International Support Syria Group on ceasing military activities in [Syria]. He emphasized that such a step under the conditions of observing a ceasefire by all parties in the intra-Syrian conflict would allow for the provision of deliveries of humanitarian aid to the needy,” the Foreign Ministry said.
