MOSCOW (Sputnik) – At least three of the people were killed in Virginia on Wednesday, when a tornado hit the town of Waverly located about 50 miles south of Richmond, the newspaper said.
The remaining three deaths occurred on Tuesday night in southern United States, where multiple storms and tornadoes hit four states.
On Wednesday afternoon over 1500 flights were cancelled in the United States amid dangerous weather conditions, according to USA Today.
Damages to apartment buildings and power outages were reported in some southern states on Wednesday.
At least 30 people have been injured.
A tornado watch is in effect for the entire Washington DC area until 11 p. m. on Wednesday (04:00 GMT on Thursday).
