The silver and gold will be converted into the shape of the coveted Oscar statuette, plus a few upgrades. So, instead of the traditional gold man holding a sword, this one will have mongol features and will be holding a golden ‘choron’ – a traditional Yakut goblet.
Besides, the Siberian Oscar’s head will be looking upward rather than down.
“We have raised almost 1.4 kilos of silver and four grams of gold for the choron. It’s enough… We expect the statuette to be ready on Friday,” Tatyana Yegorova, a teacher at the Arctic Institute of Culture and Fine Arts, told RIA Novosti.
Yegorova also said that many of the women donated part of their valuables so that they could keep the other part and feel closer to the actor.
