A Year of the Sun: NASA’s Time-Lapse Video Shows Dynamics of Our Star

Subscribe
A year of the sun’s life was captured in detail by ultra-high definition cameras at NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO).

SDO has been scrutinizing the star closest to Earth around the clock since 2010. This video presents an entire year of observation, showcasing dynamics of the sun that are invisible to the naked eye. In particular, it demonstrates the sun’s 25-day rotation cycle.

Inspecting the sun, scientists hope to get the key to some physical processes that affect people on Earth and in space, including solar flares and other forms solar radiation.
