The European Council decided not to extend sanctions it had imposed on 170 Belarusian nationals and three companies.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — The European Union said Thursday it had officially decided not to extend sanctions against 170 Belarusian nationals and three companies, though the arms embargo against Minsk would stay in place.

"On 25 February 2016, the Council decided not to prolong restrictive measures for 170 people and three companies whose listings were already suspended. However, it extended the existing measures by one year, including an arms embargo on Belarus," the European Council said in a statement.
