Kerry: Establishing Syrian Safe Zone ‘Very Much a Consideration’
17:32 GMT 25.02.2016 (Updated: 10:46 GMT 06.08.2022) The Obama administration has been reviewing the idea of creating a safe zone in Syria, US Secretary of State John Kerry told the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee on Thursday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Turkey has actively advocated for establishing a no-fly zone in northern Syria to US and NATO opposition.
"It’s been very much a consideration," Kerry said when asked whether the administration is considering establishing a safe zone along the Turkey-Syria border. "It is a lot more complicated than it obviously sounds."

In November, US President Barack Obama said imposing a no-fly zone in Syria to improve the
humanitarian situation in the region was counterproductive.
Earlier this month, Gemran Chancellor Angela Merkel said she believes imposing a "no-fly zone" over Syria would help speed up the process of finding a political settlement in the country.
