WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US government confirmed it has warned American banks that doing business with Russia presented certain risks, a Department of State spokesperson told Sputnik on Thursday.
"We [the United States] continue to be clear in our engagements with US companies that we believe there are risks — both economic and reputational- associated with a return to business as usual with Russia," the official said when asked if the United States warned companies off bidding on Russian bonds.
The official added that private companies in the United States, European Union and around the world should understand that Russia remains a "high-risk market" if Moscow does not change its policies in Ukraine.
Earlier, media reported that the State Department and Treasury Departments told US companies to refrain from cooperating with Russia in the bond markets.
