"Any ceasefire in Syria must be a good idea after all. I hope it sticks. I would like to see the United Kingdom more and actively involved in helping to move it forward," Lord Alfred Dubs said.
Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the army loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting several opposition factions and militant groups.
Earlier this week, Moscow and Washington, both active mediators of Syrian peace process, announced a plan for the cessation of hostilities in Syria, set to come into effect at midnight Damascus time on February 27.
"If we want to develop a long-term peace we need to talk to everybody. I think Assad has got to be involved. Some opponents to Assad who don't want talk to him should be persuaded," Lord Alfred Dubs said.
According to Lord Dubs, a decision on Assad's future should be taken only after ceasefire in Syria is reached.
The United Kingdom is a member of the the International Syria Support Group (ISSG), which was created in November 2015 after the international talks on Syrian reconciliation in Vienna as an international format aiming to resolve the internal crisis in the country.
