According to Midi Libre newspaper, the minister initially attempted to ignore the attentions of his admirer, but on February 16 finally decided to report it to the authorities.
The police managed to quickly establish the identity of the suspect, a 29-years old female student living in the Juvignac commune in the southern region of France. The authorities searched her apartment and confiscated the suspect’s personal computer and cellphone, while the woman herself was put in custody for ‘malicious repeated messages disturbing the peace of others’, the newspaper adds.
According to Midi Libre, the investigators believe that the woman poses no threat, but because of the fact that she targeted a public figure, the case had to be handled according to due process.
As per the law against electronic harassment, the suspect is facing up to a year in prison and a fine of 15,000 euros.
