Four Saudi Warplanes Arrive at Turkey's Incirlik Airbase
ANKARA (Sputnik) Saudi air force warplanes began arriving at the Incrilik base in southern Turkey with the stated aim of carrying out airstrikes against the Daesh jihadist group, Turkish Presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said Friday.

"The first Saudi aircraft had already started to arrive to combat Daesh," Kalin told reporters.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, who estimated the dates of arrival of Saudi aircraft at Thursday or Friday, said Saudi personnel to service the planes have landed in Turkey well ahead of time.

Riyadh’s deployment of four F-15E Strike Eagle fighter-bombers joins US, German and Qatari aircraft taking part in anti-Daesh airstrikes in Iraq and Syria.

The US-led coalition has carried out airstrikes against the group, banned in a number of countries including Russia, in Syria since mid-2014 without approval from Damascus or the United Nations.

The Incirlik base is 5 miles north of the Turkish city of Adana near the Syrian border.

Kalin stressed that Ankara had no plans of launching ground operations in Syria on its own initiative, but pointed out the inefficiency of air operations.
