WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Most of the armed opposition groups in Syria have expressed willingness to participate in the ceasefire agreement worked out by the United States and Russia, US Department of State spokesperson Mark Toner said in a briefing on Friday.
"Vast majority of Syrian armed opposition groups have told the United States that they have accepted the terms for the cessation of hostilities," Toner stated.
On Monday, Moscow and Washington announced they had agreed on a cessation of hostilities in Syria to ensure humanitarian aid reaches besieged areas and to better delineate terrorist-held territories in the country.
The ceasefire between Syria's allegedly moderate opposition groups and Syrian government forces is scheduled to come into effect on Saturday at midnight Damascus time.
The agreement does not apply to the al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front and the Islamic State, also known as Daesh, or to other groups designated as terrorist by the United Nations.
