There is a “glaring disconnect” between the loud condemnation of Russian actions in Syria and the actual agreements, discreetly made at the highest level and voiced publicly; such a policy might soon result in an admittance by the US officials that the insistence on removing Assad “was a huge mistake,” according to a British writer and broadcaster.

Out to Win: Why Syria Ceasefire Deal is a Huge Victory for Russia
We could soon observe a major policy U-turn from the US and UK, writer and broadcaster Mary Dejevsky, who is also a well-known commentator on Russia writes in her article for The Guardian.

The two countries however, she suggests, “need a rhetorical cover to mask” their decision.

“There is a glaring disconnect between the loud condemnation of Russia in, say, Washington and London, and the talks that are being discreetly conducted at the highest level – and that result, every now and again, in public agreements,” the author says.

“You will also hear highly placed US officials increasingly admitting that the administration’s insistence on removing Assad was a huge mistake,” she further suggests.

Having analyzed the recent developments in Syria, the huge success of the Russian airstrike campaign and its worldwide coverage, Mary

Dejevsky came up with one more conclusion.

“For all the talk about a new cold war, the bipolar world is over – even the US and Russia together probably cannot impose their will. The latest agreement, though, could be enough to allow a first coordinated relief effort. It should not be written off before it has even had a chance to begin.”
