VIENNA (Sputnik) — Italy’s Lega Nord party on Saturday welcomed the start of a ceasefire in war-torn Syria, which does not include the two main terrorist organizations on the ground, the party’s member and Senate lawmaker said.
"The agreement is a good idea because the US-led anti-IS coalition and the Russian forces will continue to fight the terrorist groups including the Islamic State and Al-Nusra, which are not sides to the this agreement," Sergio Divina said on the sidelines of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)'s Parliamentary Assembly.
A ceasefire, agreed by Russia and the United States on Monday, came into effect overnight and has been upheld by 97 militant groups, according to the UN Syrian envoy. The two main terrorist groups in Syria, Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) and the Nusra Front, are not part of the arrangement.
