Refugee Crisis Responses : EU, US Must 'Stabilize the Situation in Syria'
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A plane with the 25,000th Syrian refugee on board landed in Montreal Saturday night, The Globe and Mail reported, citing Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister John McCallum’s executive assistant Camielle Edwards.

According to the media outlet, dozens of planes with Syrian refugees on board have landed in the Canadian cities of Toronto and Montreal over the past few months. The refugee arrivals are scheduled to continue on Monday.

Last week, McCallum said that the resettlement of Syrian refugees would slow down, as the Canadian government has already reached its goal.

The Liberal Party initially proposed to bring 25,000 refugees to Canada by December 31, 2015, but decreased the target number to 10,000 in November. Since then, McCallum has pledged to resettle another 15,000 "mostly government-assisted" Syrian refugees in the country by March 1, 2016.

On March 9, the Canadian government is due to announce its annual immigration targets, the media outlet reported. McCallum's previous estimates for the resettlement stood between 35,000 to 50,000 Syrian refugees by the end of this year.
