MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A Russian pilot died in a crash while performing a planned Su-25 Frogfoot fighter jet training flight in southern Russia, the Defense Ministry’s press service said Monday.
"Today at 19:23 Moscow time, a Russian Su-25 jet crashed in the Budennovsk air range region of Stavropol Territory while carrying out a planned training flight," the press service noted.
The aircraft’s pilot did not survive, it added.
The training flight was carried out without combat ammunition load and fell in an unpopulated area.
The ministry formed a special commission to investigate the cause of the crash, which includes aviation safety experts with the Russian Armed Forces.
