MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The three main reasons for a transport operator to use the Northern Sea Route are its reliability, travel time and shipping costs, Konstantin Kuzovkov, vice-president of the Russian FESCO group shipping company said Monday.
"Speaking in order of importance, reliability, time of shipment and costs are the three main considerations for FESCO when it comes to the Northern Sea Route," Kuzovkov said, speaking at a press conference in Moscow.
The Northern Sea Route is a shipping lane running along the Russian Arctic coast, enabling passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific via the Northern coast of Siberia.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said on Friday that the Northern Sea Route should be progressed in conjunction with the development of sea transport, to ensure that the route’s capacity to transport goods is fully utilized.
