WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On the Republican side, Trump has doubled his lead and holds a 40 percent favorability rating among registered GOP voters. The billionaire’s lead has reached a "new high" on Super Tuesday while his main contender Senator Marco Rubio managed to garner 21 percent of support, the poll found.
Senator Ted Cruz has 18 percent of support among Republican voters, former neurosurgeon Ben Carson gained 8 percent and Ohio Governor John Kasich has 7 percent.
On the Democratic side, the former secretary of state holds a 10 point lead over her opponent Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders who has 41 percent of support among registered Democratic voters.
The results of the poll come at the start of Super Tuesday — one of the most decisive days in the US presidential primaries, with the largest number of states voting on a single day.
On Tuesday, Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and Virginia will hold both Democratic and Republican primaries. While Alaska will hold its Republican caucus and Democrats will caucus in the American Samoa territory.
