"We appreciate what Russia has done in respect of the truce in Syria, and in terms of the beginning of the reconstruction of the country, and from a humanitarian point of view. We understand Russia's actions in Syria, but we believe it is important to prevent the possibility of Iran to be present in Syria and it cannot be allowed for arms to be supplied through Syria to Lebanon," Heifetz said at a meeting with the speaker of the upper house of Russian parliament, Valentina Matvienko.
The United States and Russia reached an agreement on a ceasefire in Syria on February 22. The UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2268 endorsing the Russia-US agreement on Friday. The ceasefire in Syria came into force at midnight Damascus time on February 27. The truce does not include Daesh and al-Nusra Front terrorist organizations and other radical groups blacklisted by the UN.
