Int'l Reporters Injured in Syria Shelling Are in Satisfactory Condition
18:02 GMT 01.03.2016 (Updated: 18:03 GMT 01.03.2016) Four reporters from China, Canada, Bulgaria and Russia, who were wounded on Tuesday in artillery shelling from an area near the Syria-Turkey border while on a press tour, have received medical treatment and are in a satisfactory condition, the commander of the Russian center on reconciliation in Syria said.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry said that 33 Russian and foreign journalists had come under artillery fire in the Latakia province near the Turkish border.
"As a result of the shelling, four journalists from China, Canada, Bulgaria and Russia were injured. They received medical treatment and their current health condition is satisfactory," Lt. Gen. Sergei Kuralenko
A total of eight large-caliber shells were fired from an area near the border town of Bdama in the north of the Idlib Province, landing between 150 to 400 meters (490 to 1310 feet) from the journalists, Kuralenko said.
According to a source in the Syrian army, al-Nusra Front terrorist group, which is not included in the ceasefire deal as well as Daesh, has been responsible for the shelling.
The attack comes after the cessation of hostilities had come into effect at midnight on February 27. Earlier, the United States and Russia reached an agreement on a ceasefire between the Syrian government and opposition groups to help end the country’s civil war.
