KIEV (Sputnik) – Groysman met European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Commissioner Johannes Hahn in Brussels earlier in the day.
"The purpose of today’s meeting was to discuss the issues of visa liberalization. Ukrainian and European experts plan to coordinate technical issues as soon as possible so as not to violate the terms of preparations for the introduction of a visa-free regime," the speaker wrote on his Facebook page.
Hahn said earlier the visa-free regime’s enactment depended on the Ukrainian legislature.
An EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, establishing a political and economic association between the bloc and the country, was signed in 2014, but it is yet to be ratified by all of the bloc's member states. According to the agreement, Ukraine must adopt a wide range of reforms, including anti-corruption measures, improving public finance management, increasing decentralization and reorganizing the energy sector.
In January, a high ranking EU diplomatic source told journalists on condition of anonymity that several members of the European Union were not ready to abolish the visa regime with Ukraine because of Kiev-related corruption concerns.
