MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Afghanistan’s Khaama Press newspaper, the blast occurred at about 12 p.m. local time (07:30 GMT).
Two gunmen were shot dead by the security forces following the blast, the newspaper said. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast yet.
A spokesman for the province's governor, Ataullah Khogyani, confirmed the explosion took place but disclosed no further details. The consulate employees sustained no injuries.
The law enforcement officers have cordoned off the scene of the explosion that broke glass in nearby buildings and damaged eight cars.
