PARIS (Sputnik) – Paris has familiarized itself with the decision of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) to designate the Hezbollah militant group a terrorist organization, the French Foreign Ministry’s spokesman told Sputnik Wednesday.
"We have taken note of the decision taken by the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization," Romain Nadal said.
He also reminded of the decision made by the European Union on July 22, 2013, which put Hezbollah’s armed wing on its terrorism blacklist.
All the Hezbollah militants and groups affiliated with them were classified as "terrorist" by the GCC.
The Beirut-based Hezbollah is a Lebanese Shiite Islamist political party and militant group established in 1985. Hezbollah militants have been assisting the Syrian army and loyalists fighting an insurgency and jihadist groups on the ground in civil war-ridden Syria.
