MOSCOW (Sputnik) — UEFA banned Turkish football club Galatasaray AS from the European club competitions for one year over the next two seasons for breaking Financial Fair Play rules, the organization said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
"The Adjudicatory Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) today announced that Galatasaray AS will be excluded from participating in the next UEFA club competition for which they would otherwise qualify in the next two (2) seasons (i.e. the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons)," the statement reads.
Galatasaray, currently fifth in the Turkish Super League, has attracted attention for spending large sums of money on international football stars, such as Wesley Sneijder and Lukas Podolski, who are part of the club's current squad.
