MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The United Nations is unlikely to deliver humanitarian aid to Syria’s East Ghouta towns on Wednesday due to operational issues it needs to work through with the parties involved in the conflict, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) told Sputnik.
"Aid delivery to East Ghouta and four towns which are Madaya, Zabadani, Foah, Kafraya is unlikely to happen today," the UNOCHA press office said.
"We still have our ongoing operation issues that we need to work out with the government, with parties to the conflict and agencies in order to get those supplies as safely and as quickly as possible," the press office added.
The aid deliveries to four towns in East Ghouta should have included food, nutrition and health supplies, the press office explained.
The International Syria Support Group (ISSG), co-chaired by Russia and the United States, called in the February 12 communique for swift humanitarian access to all besieged areas in Syria, and set a one-week deadline for measures to be implemented toward the cessation of hostilities in the country.
