Yemen's national army, supported by the popular resistance, has liberated over 85 percent of the country’s territory from Houthi rebels and forces loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In an interview with Saudi Gazette published on Thursday, Hadi expressed confidence that the country's capital, Sanaa, which has been captured by Houthi rebels, would be liberated once government forces had first regained control of the city of Taiz and the port of Hudaydah in western Yemen.

Hadi also underlined the importance of Operation Decisive Storm, launched by the Arab military coalition under the leadership of Saudi Arabia, in the fight against Houthis. According to Hadi, Yemen would have fallen in four days if it had not been for the operation.

Since 2014, Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government headed by Hadi and Houthi rebels. In March, 2015, a Saudi-led coalition of Arab states began airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen at Hadi’s request.
