ROME (Sputnik) — According to the Italian Corriere della Sera newspaper, the External Intelligence and Security Agency, as well as the government, will overview the operation scheduled to begin on Thursday.
A secret document on the operation was adopted on February 10 and subsequently obtained by the newspaper. The Italian troops will join French, US and UK special forces that have been operating in Libya for several weeks.
In late February, French media reported that France was carrying out secret missions against Daesh in Libya.
Libya has been in turmoil since early 2011, when Arab Spring protests led to a civil war and the overthrow of long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi.
