MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Reconnaissance units with the Southern Military District (SMD) concluded field days with the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in the internal Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, the district’s press service said Sunday.
"Over 500 military intelligence officers with motor rifle brigades deployed in Chechnya, Dagestan, North Ossetia and South Ossetia were involved in the exercise," the SMD said.
The troops performed special tactical training exercises, airborne training and driving military vehicles, as well as firing practice from small arms and standard weapons aboard combat vehicles, it added.
"Soldiers worked out techniques and methods of reconnaissance in challenging environments both in daytime and nighttime in all weather conditions. In addition, the scouts performed the tasks of countering sabotage and reconnaissance groups of a simulated enemy," the SMD said.
At the end of the field day, intelligence troops performed special tactical exercises with the use of "Orlan" and "Leer" drones, and held contests for the best scout, driver, marksman, as well as the best reconnaissance platoon and company, the district said.
