Trump has garnered some 36 percent of voter support in the Republican field ahead of Senator Ted Cruz with 23 percent and Ohio Governor John Kasich with 21 percent. Senator Marco Rubio has gained 13 percent of voter support.
"After this past weekend’s mixed bag of results, Trump appears positioned for a win in Michigan, but the race may be tightening in the final hours." Director of Monmouth University Polling Patrick Murray said. "Trump’s support may be dropping, while Kasich’s star could be rising."
The results of the poll come after Sanders and Clinton faced off during a debate in Flint, Michigan on Sunday night. Flint drew much attention earlier over a massive water contamination crisis that significantly affected the city’s African American population.
African Americans have supported Clinton in large numbers although many are increasingly supporting Sanders and Trump.
