PARIS (Sputnik) — The ceasefire in Syria is holding but it has to be persistent, French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said Monday.
The Syrian ceasefire, under agreement reached by Russia and the United States, took effect at midnight on February 27. The truce is reported to be generally holding across the country despite reported minor violations.
"There is ceasefire [in Syria], there is de-escalation but it is necessary [for it] to be lasting," Ayrault told the France Inter radio station.
The minister stressed the necessity of providing humanitarian access to all territories in the country, so everyone in need would be able to obtain aid.
