Four Georgians were convicted due to Daesh terorrist group links, local media reported Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Four Georgian nationals received prison terms over their links to the Islamic State (IS, outlawed in Russia) militant group, local media reported Monday.

According to the Gruzia Online portal, the Tbilisi city court sentenced one of the men to 14 years in prison for recruiting people for a terrorist group and helping a foreign terrorist group.

The other prison terms ranged from one to 11 years.

The men were arrested in 2015 on suspicion of recruitment of people and disseminating extremist literature.

In November, the deputy head of Georgia’s State Security Service, Levan Izoria, said there were up to 50 Georgian citizens fighting alongside extremist groups in Syria, adding that there were pro-IS websites in the Georgian language.
