MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian warplanes are targeting only Daesh and al Nusra Front terrorists in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said Monday.
"Russian Aerospace Forces’ aircraft from the Hmeymim airbase are striking only the Daesh and Nusra Front terrorist groups in the provinces of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor and near the Tadmur district in Homs province," ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov stated.
Russia’s forces are not bombing the Syrian opposition groups, and are honoring the ceasefire, he added.
The Russia-US brokered ceasefire was backed by the Syrian government and dozens of opposition groups on the ground. Daesh and the Nusra Front, both recognized as illegal terrorist groups in Russia, are not protected under the truce, which came into force on February 27 across Syria.
