The US Transportation Security Administration announced that more than 65 million people are expected to travel via US civilian airlines during the coming spring holiday season.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — More than 65 million people are expected to travel via US civilian airlines during the coming spring holiday season, the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced in a press release.

“[T]he TSA remains prepared to effectively screen the more than 65.1 million travellers expected to travel over the Spring Break travel season beginning in March,” the release on Monday said. “TSA expects passenger volumes to drastically increase throughout the month of March.”

The TSA said it normally screens nearly 2 million passengers daily and that domestic US passenger volumes had risen by up more than 7 percent over the same time period compared to 2015.

The much-criticized TSA continues to face widespread criticism and calls for management and other reforms since scathing internal reviews last year showed an almost total inability to provide airport security.

The results of undercover tests released in July 2015 shocked the US travelling public, as they revealed TSA airport screeners at dozens of checkpoints simply did not see illegal weapons brought in by government agents up to 96 percent of the time.

Moreover, Americans have long objected to the invasive as well as inefficient methods to screen passengers, which they often equate to groping, euphemistically calling the system in place “security theater.”
