MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least 35 militants were killed and four were injured in Afghanistan during security force operations over the past 24 hours, the Afghan Ministry of Defense said in a statement Tuesday.
Five Daesh (IS) militants were among those killed in the eastern Nangarhar province, according to the statement.
The security forces arrested seven militants and found stores with different types of weapons, ammunition and explosives.
Afghanistan is in a state of political and social turmoil, with the government fighting the continuing Taliban insurgency, while other extremist groups, such as the IS, outlawed in many countries including Russia, has expanded its activities in the country.
