ATHENS (Sputnik) – Tsipras led a cabinet delegation for the High Level Cooperation Council with Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in the Turkish port city of Izmir earlier in the day.
"I once again openly expressed Athens’ concern about the continuing violations of our airspace and especially growing preliminary air operations. This growth does not help create a good climate of friendship, and I told the Prime Minister that we have to solve this problem on its merits," Tsipras said.
For over 40 years, Turkey has not accepted Greece’s internationally recognized 10-mile airspace and claimed that Greek airspace stretches six miles.
Scrambled Greek jets have regularly entered into virtual aerial combat with Turkish aircraft in violation of Greek airspace.
