WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — McCain argued that President Barack Obama and his administration have showed a "shameful and dangerous lack of condemnation" for the recent Iranian ballistic missile tests, and the capture of US sailors in Iranian waters earlier in December.
"Each provocation that goes unopposed increases the chances of a likelihood of miscalculation that could spiral into a wider conflict," McCain stated after listing a number of Iranian actions he called provocative.
Following the tests, the Obama administration stated it would look into the incident, and raise the matter with the UN Security Council if it is confirmed that the tests did take place.
After the adoption of the Iranian nuclear agreement last July, the UN Security Council passed Resolution 2231, which prohibits Iran from engaging in activity related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons.
