The next US administration could have changed its stance on and policies towards Russia, but this is an unlikely scenario regardless of who comes to the White House in 2017.
Hillary Clinton "has wrapped herself in the Obama legacy and will no doubt continue the march towards more wars and military adventures that the US has embarked upon ever since Korea," Riggins observed. "The Republican candidates are no different in this respect."
"Any disruptions in the Russian-American political dialogue are an unnecessary luxury," political scientist Andrey Kortunov asserted. Severed ties would necessarily lead to greater instability in the world, a higher risk of direct military confrontation and growing "confrontational sentiments" in both countries towards each other, he warned.
To prevent this from happening, Moscow and Washington, according to Kortunov, should resume a comprehensive dialogue on different levels and in as many areas as possible.
