MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The deal, approved on Thursday, concerns the development, construction and operation of three power stations in England — at Hinkley Point (Somerset,) Sizewell (Suffolk) and Bradwell (Essex), the French Le Monde newspaper said.
The estimated cost of the Hinkley Point project stands at over $25.5 billion. Hinkley Point is expected to cover 7 percent of energy needs in the United Kingdom when it starts operation in 2025.
The French Cour des Comptes (Court of Audit), the government’s public auditor, has released a report saying that the Hinkley project could be risky for EDF.
EDF chief financial officer Thomas Piquemal resigned last week over concerns that the Hinkley Point project could threaten the future of the company, which is 85 percent owned by the French government.
