WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Blunt force injuries to head caused the death of ex-head of Gazprom-Media and former Russian Press Minister Mikhail Lesin, District of Colombia Office of Medical Examiner and Metropolitan Police Department announced in a joint statement obtained by RIA Novosti.
"The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) has released the cause and manner of death for Mikhail Lesin, 59, Russia. Cause of Death: blunt force injuries of the head," the statement said on Thursday. "Other contributing causes: blunt force injuries of the neck, torso, upper extremities and lower extremities. Manner of death: undetermined."
The incident remains under active investigation, the statement added.
The former Russian press minister died in Washington, DC on November 5, 2015. Following his death, Lesin's family told RIA Novosti that the former head of Gazprom-Media died from heart attack.
He was appointed to head Gazprom-Media holding in October 2013 and resigned in January 2015, citing family reasons. Lesin is also widely credited as the creator of international broadcaster RT.
