TOKYO (Sputnik) — A woman, who contracted the decease, has been hospitalized and her condition is improving, Kyodo news agency reported, citing the ministry.
The first Zika case was confirmed in Japan on February 25. The young man was in Brazil for 10 days, where he was infected with the virus.
In February, the Japanese Health Ministry reported about the necessity of the specific attention, while visiting 20 countries of Latin and Central America, where the virus had been widespread.
The Zika virus is transmitted by mosquitoes active in daytime. It does not cause serious complications in adults, but is suspected of leading to severe brain defects and microcephaly cases in newborns.
The Zika outbreak originated in Brazil last spring, spread across Latin America, then to the United States, Europe and China early in 2016.
