Presidential hopeful Donald Trump took the lead in Florida and Ohio, according to a new poll.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has taken the lead in Florida and Ohio, home states of his two main contenders, a new poll revealed on Friday.

"Donald Trump is narrowly leading Ohio Gov. John Kasich in his state's Republican primary although the GOP front-runner holds a substantial lead over his rivals in Florida," according to a new CNN poll.

Meanwhile in Ohio, Trump is leading the state’s Governor Kasich by only two percent with 36 percent of voters’ support, while Cruz holds 18 percent and Rubio 8 percent.

In Florida, the home state of his opponent Senator Marco Rubio, the real estate tycoon holds 40 percent of support from Republican voters. Florida Senator Rubio holds just 26 percent of votes, while Texas Senator Ted Cruz holds 18 percent and Kasich has 8 percent.

On March 15, voters from Ohio and Florida will head to the polls to take part in the Republican primaries.
