WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States is willing to impose additional sanctions against North Korea, if Pyongyang conducts additional nuclear weapons tests in the future, State Department spokesman John Kirby said on Friday.
“I certainly wouldn’t rule anything in or out in terms of what we might try to espouse inside the UN Security Council, or unilaterally working with the Congress,” Kirby said of a possible response to additional North Korean nuclear tests.
On Friday, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for tests to assess the power and capability of newly developed nuclear warheads, according to the official KCNA news agency. Pyongyang tested a nuclear weapon it claimed to be a hydrogen bomb in early January, resulting in a series of new international sanctions.
