MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The SNP, which is the third-largest party by membership in the United Kingdom, as well as by overall representation in the House of Commons, supports and campaigns for Scottish independence.
"I can tell you today that this summer the SNP will embark on a new initiative to build support for independence," Nicola Strurgeon told the SNP spring conference.
In September 2014, Scotland held a referendum on independence from the United Kingdom, in which over 55 percent of the electorate rejected secession.
In February, Angus Robertson, the leader of the SNP in Westminster, said that the Scots would initiate a new referendum on independence from the United Kingdom in case the latter leaves the European Union, the issue that would be decided during the June 23 referendum on UK's membership in the bloc.
