MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Fallon said at least 30 military trainers will be deployed in Iraq, which will bring the total number of UK personnel in the country to more than 300, according to the BBC. The move comes as Iraqi troops prepare for major offensive to retake the cities of Mosul and Fallujah.
The defense secretary said that UK forces were playing "the crucial role" in the fight against Daesh.
"Now is the time to step up our training of Iraqi Forces, as they prepare for operations in key cities such as Fallujah and Mosul," Fallon said.
The troops are due to "provide training in areas such as logistics and bridge building, as well as specialist medical staff," according to the press release.
According to the press release, the British forces have assisted in training over 6,500 personnel in Iraq so far.
