UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — On Thursday, members of Libyan Political Dialogue, a forum that unites different country's political powers, issued a statement in Tunis calling for Libya's unity and the necessity to implement the agreement on formation of the Government of National Accord in the country's capital of Tripoli.
"The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Martin Kobler.. applauds the spirit of courage, determination and cohesion displayed by the Dialogue members and expresses his gratitude for the unanimous support of the members of the international community to the Libyan Political Dialogue," the statement published Friday read.
Libya has been in crisis since the 2011 overthrow of long-term leader Muammar Gaddafi and the subsequent civil war. There are currently two governments in Libya: the internationally-recognized Council of Deputies based in Tobruk and the Tripoli-based General National Congress. The two sides came to an agreement on December 17, paving the way to the formation of the Government of National Accord.
