A Maremma Sheepdog named Leo, who was recently rescued by the Swedish authorities from his abusive owner, has found a new home at an alpaca ranch.
"At first we did not know if it would work. It is one thing to bring in a Maremmano puppy and let it grow up with the herd but quite another to take in an adult dog and try to teach it," Jan-Olof Östberg, the ranch owner, told Aftonbladet.
However, Leo quickly became friends with other Maremma Sheepdogs living at the ranch and with alpacas, even though he never encountered these camelids before.
"He probably wondered 'what are these strange dogs with long necks'," Leckström remarked.
