GENEVA (Sputnik) – Russian Aerospace Forces’ operations in Syria were assigned not only military tasks, but also to bring peace to the country, Russia’s envoy to the UN office in Geneva said Tuesday.
“The main part of the Russian military groupings out of Syria is because our military personnel have completed their mission. The operations by the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria were not just a clear military task, but to reinstate peace in the country. The operations by Russian military in Syria is a bright example of how military might can serve in completing peacekeeping and foreign policy goals,” Alexei Borodavkin told journalists.
“The operation by the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria has brought the renewal of peace nearer in the country. Joint efforts by Russian military and diplomats are stimulating the intra-Syrian negotiations. The withdrawal of part of Russia’s military groupings in Syria doesn’t mean that we have eased the fight against international terrorist groups operating in Syria, first and foremost against Daesh [Islamic State, prohibited in numerous countries including Russia and the United States],” Alexei Borodavkin said.
