A spokesman for the prosecutor's office also said that four police officers were wounded during the operation.
"One or more people immediately opened fire on police the moment the door was opened by the security forces," the office said in a statement.
Police stormed the building five hours later, and "a suspect armed with a Kalashnikov was killed."
It was earlier reported that one of the gunmen was neutralized, though the identity of that individual remains unclear.
The raid was related to the Paris terror attacks last November in which 130 people were killed in shootings at multiple sites across the French capital.
