In Missouri, the numbers were higher, with three quarters of Republican voters wanting non-citizen Muslims barred from entering the United States.
The polling, conducted by the Associated Press and television networks for Edison Research, found that four in ten Republican voters, in all of the states that voted, want immigrants who are in the country illegally to be deported.
Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, who is widely accused of using fascist tactics, has vowed a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States,” including refugees, those seeking immigration visas, and tourists.
"This type of knee-jerk, if not demagogic-policy stance, is unmitigated surrender to the Islamist global narrative that they, ISIS, and all the Islamist theocrats of the world own what is and is not Islam and faithful Muslim," Zuhdi Jasser, president of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, told Fox News in December 2015.
