MOSCOW (Sputnik) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s spokesman said previously the convoys planned for Madaya, Zabadani, Foah and Kafraya on Monday were postponed because of security considerations.
"As soon as the situation improves, we are planning to do that delivery as soon as possible. We are planning a convoy in the coming days," the UNOCHA press office said.
Mediator of proximity talks between Syrian government and opposition members, Special UN Envoy Staffan de Mistura, has previously recapped that over 500 aid trucks have reached over a quarter million Syrians since the start of 2016.
Speaking to reporters last week, de Mistura said humanitarian convoys were able to reach areas in areas surrounding the four besieged cities.
UNOCHA estimates that the five-year civil war in Syria has left 4.6 million people internally displaced and another 4.8 million Syrians fleeing as refugees.
